Thailand's dream islands - The Ko Samui archipelago (mareTV)
|Genre||Factual | Travel & Adventure|
|Produktion||nonfictionplanet for NDR|
The 60 islands of the Samui Archipelago, with its hills covered in jungles, endless sandy beaches and crystal clear water is an absolute dream destination. Lively Ko Samui is world famous and Thailand's third largest island. It's far more peaceful on the neighbouring island of Ko Phangan. Many of the bays here are still without any road connections and can only be reached by boat. The inhabitants of the island group cultivate traditions no longer adhered to on the mainland. During water buffalo fights on Ko Samui, the opponents simply sniff one another out and stare at each other for many minutes, instead of fighting. It is not rare for one of the candidates to become bored and just leave, thus losing the "battle". The fast ferries operating between the mainland and Ko Phangan take 90 minutes for the trip. Wit, with his old wooden ferry, needs the entire night. It takes seven hours for the tour including passengers and freight. Yet his business is booming. Wit has covered his boat with mattresses and most of them are occupied. The concept: perfect cleanliness on board, personal service and above all, punctuality. He leaves at 11 pm and arrives the next morning at 6 o’clock. To the minute.
